“Sentinel” — Original graphite hawk portrait (11x14)

This piece was carefully developed over 30+ hours, focusing on depth, precision, and the quiet intensity of the subject. Each feather was built in layers using black Mars Lumograph graphite and charcoal on Bristol vellum, allowing for both softness and sharp contrast.

I’m drawn to wildlife for its stillness and strength—and this hawk felt like a study in both: calm, observant, and powerful without needing movement.
